'Teammates feel comfortable' - how Luke Shaw has improved Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has lauded Luke Shaw's impact since his return to the Manchester United side.

Shaw was sidelined for three months with a hamstring tear but made his comeback in the 3-0 win at Everton last month and he has started their last four games.

Ten Hag started the left-back at centre back in the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle and Shaw moved inside again for the second half against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Shaw, 28, is certain to retain his place for the Premier League visit of Bournemouth on Saturday. "I think a lot, he is a player others can build on," Ten Hag enthused. "He gives belief and confidence to other players.

"So the teammates around him feel comfortable, he will deal with different situations, he will set up and take the initiative to create and strengthen absolutely the team.

"His presence, his personality, but he also has the skill set with physicality, so strong, also technical very good. He is a high-profile player and we are happy he is back on."

United are the lowest scorers in the top 13 of the Premier League with only 18 goals but they are the only side not to have drawn a game all season.

The defeat of Chelsea was their ninth victory out of 15 in the league and eight of them have been by a one-goal margin. Bournemouth have won three of their last four games and were only denied victory over third-place Aston Villa by Ollie Watkins's 90th-minute equaliser.
