Tanya Oxtoby confirmed as new Northern Ireland manager

Tanya Oxtoby has been appointed as the new manager of the Northern Ireland senior women's team.

The 41-year-old Australian, who previously managed Bristol City in the Women’s Super League and was most recently an assistant coach at Chelsea, has signed a four-year contract with the Irish Football Association.

"I am delighted and honoured to join the Northern Ireland senior women’s team," Oxtoby said.

"I’m really excited to be part of the next stage of international women’s football in this football loving country.

"I’m very much looking forward to contributing my experience and expertise to this exciting and talented team to help us achieve our potential.

Northern Ireland failed to qualify for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, finishing behind England and Austria in their group, but claimed a record points tally of 19 in qualifying.

Former manager Kenny Shiels left his position in January after nearly four years at the helm, during which time he led the country’s women’s team to a first major tournament in Euro 2022.
