talkSPORT reporter drops claim on Levy approach to Djed Spence deal as Tottenham move agreed

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy’s approach to the Djed Spence has been revealed by talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, with reports on Thursday now saying a deal is agreed.

Antonio Conte has been chasing the Middlesbrough youngster throughout the summer, and Spurs have now agreed an initial £12.5m fee with the Championship side.

Tottenham have enjoyed a productive start to the window, bringing in Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet.

However, the north London outfit had little success in trying to get Spence on board, until now.

According to Sky Sports, the two clubs have continuously been apart in their valuation of the right wing-back, with Middlesbrough asking for £20m, while Spurs believe his lack of top-flight experience mean he’s worth just £10m – the latest reports suggest that the fee is closer to the North London outfit’s valuation.

Spence missed Tottenham’s ongoing trip to South Korea, although he was also left out of the Boro squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal, which suggested that he might be edging closer to linking up with Conte’s men.

But Crook reckons that with Chris Wilder keen to move on from the saga and sell Spence, he reckons the Teeside outfit will ultimately end up lowering their asking price for the England Under-21 ace.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Tottenham felt the longer the window dragged on, Middlesbrough and certainly Chris Wilder, would be keen to part company with Spence.

“They eventually had to bow to Tottenham’s asking price like they appear to have done, because I couldn’t see Spurs massively improving their offer.”
