Talks ongoing: Tottenham in ‘negotiations’ to get Conte outcast out of N17 - Romano

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest exit update involving Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

The 26-year-old joined La Liga outfit Villarreal on loan in January, after it had become clear that he wasn’t involved in Antonio Conte’s plans at Spurs.

Since arriving in Spain, the Argentina international went on to feature in every remaining league game, having been named in the starting XI on 11 out of a possible 16 occasions (via Transfermarkt).

It is said that midfielder is enjoying his time in the Spanish top-flight, and he hopes that a deal can be made between the two clubs over a permanent deal this summer.

Romano has now shared a fresh update on Lo Celso’s transfer situation with Villarreal.

Taking to an interview on YouTube with Chris Cowlin, Romano claimed (via a transcript on Twitter):

“Negotiations are ongoing with Villarreal, but still no agreement on the fee. Spurs want more than €20M and they are offering less. Still discussing – not complete.”

Having made the move to La Liga, Lo Celso clearly seems to be enjoying his time at his new club, given his impressive performances on the pitch.

According to FB Ref, when compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, the midfielder now ranks in the 95th percentile for tackles and in the 89th percentile for pressures.

La Liga ambassador Robert Pires has thus claimed that the Argentine has the ‘quality’ and ‘the right profile to play for Villarreal’, and with Tottenham seemingly in an agreement that Lo Celso doesn’t have a future with the club, it may only be a short time until we see the Spurs man join the Spanish side on a permanent deal.
