Talking points | Abu Dhabi GP: What we're looking forward to most in today's race

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is officially here, also heralding the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season. It's been a tough year for everyone, with the 22-race season taking a toll on teams and drivers.

With the race getting underway at 15:00 SA time, a few talking points could play out in the race.

Red Bull has lots to win

The Red Bull Racing team is the clear favourites to win today's race. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez traded the fastest times during qualifying, with no other driver coming close to matching their pace. As such, it is safe to assume that either of these two could be standing on the podium's top step.

For Verstappen, a win would extend his record to 15 victories in a single season. In Mexico a few weeks back, he surpassed the record he shared with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, and today's race would take him two wins beyond the 'magical' number 13.

Perez and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc are tied on 290 points going into the race, and either driver finishing ahead of the other will finish second behind Verstappen in the 2022 championship. Red Bull has never had its drivers finish first and second in the F1 World Championship, but it could all change at the end of the race.

Leclerc will start in third place behind Perez.

Sebastian Vettel has been a massive presence in F1 since his debut in 2007, but like all things, his career must also end. And truthfully speaking, F1 has been making the most of every opportunity to show respect to this German racer since his announcement earlier this year.

But not just FOM
