Sharks trio to bolster Bok squad for England clash

In Genoa

The Sharks trio of Ntuthuko Mchunu, Thomas du Toit, and Grant Williams are among the South Africa A players who are set to be called up to the Springbok squad for this week's Test against England at Twickenham.

This is in line with SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus's announcement earlier last week, where he said there are players from the South Africa A squad who were going to link up with the senior national team ahead of the England Test.

The Twickenham Test between the 2019 Rugby World Cup finalists falls outside of the World Rugby international window, meaning that players based in England and France won't be available for the Boks.

That means Trevor Nyakane, Jasper Wiese, Andre Esterhuizen, Cobus Reinach, and Cheslin Kolbe are going to be ineligible for selection this week.

This is also applicable to some SA A squad members like the Du Preez twins, Jean-luc and Dan, who are based in England.

Lock Jason Jenkins, who plays his club rugby in Ireland, also falls under the group that can't play for the Boks this week.

South Africa A lost both their tour games against Munster and the Bristol Bears, even though there were players who put up their hands.

The United Rugby Championship also resumes this week, with all four South African teams in action, with the Stormers hosting the Scarlets on Friday.

The Bulls have sole ownership of the Saturday fixture when they play against the Ospreys, while Super Sunday sees the Lions and the Sharks hosting the Dragons and the Cardiff Blues in what is a Welsh rugby invasion in South Africa.
