'Talking about dropping...' - Tim Spiers drops claim on Wolves team news ahead of Everton

The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has had his say on Bruno Lage’s decision to leave Max Kilman out of the Wolves team in their victory over Watford.

Wanderers picked up a superb 4-0 win at home to the Hornets on Thursday evening, as they got their season back on track after an iffy run of form.

One individual who played no part in proceedings was Kilman, however, with the 24-year-old left on the substitutes’ bench throughout the evening.

It was the first Premier League game that the centre-back hasn’t started this season, appearing in 27 of his side’s 28 matches to date in 2021/22.

Taking to Twitter, Spiers claimed it was a decision he could understand by Lage, allowing Kilman a much-needed breather:

“Talking about dropping Kilman, Lage points out he has played 30 games in a row, backs him to return and get back to previous level. It’s a fair point. First time Kilman has played so regularly since he was at non-league Maidenhead in 2018.”

The manager has since suggested Kilman could come back into the team immediately.

There was a clear risk in leaving out such a key player on Thursday but it made perfect sense in the grand scheme of things, with games coming thick and fast for Wolves.

Kilman’s form has arguably dipped a little in recent weeks – he conceded a sloppy penalty in the 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend, for example – and fatigue could have played a part in that.

The Englishman looks highly likely to come straight back into the starting lineup away to Everton on Sunday afternoon, hopefully feeling refreshed, looking to prove a point and aiming to continue his excellent season.

In other news, an expert has made a worrying Wolves injury claim. Read more here.
