'Wolves looking...' - Tim Spiers makes key claim over summer deal for 'fantastic' international

Wolves are still hoping to keep hold of defender Romain Saiss this summer despite interest from other clubs, according to reliable journalist Tim Spiers.

The 32-year-old has been a brilliant servant for Wanderers over the years, making a total of 203 appearances and helping his side return to the Premier League.

Saiss has continued to be a key figure at the back for Wolves this season, starting 28 times in the league and excelling on the left-hand side of a back-three.

The Moroccan is out of contract in the summer, however, meaning he can leave on a free transfer if he desires.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Spiers claimed that it is still Wolves’ intention to offer Saiss a new deal:

Losing Saiss at this point would be a big blow for Wolves, with his experience and quality playing a vital role in them being such a tough team to break down this season, having only conceded 26 goals in 30 league matches – Conor Coady has described his teammate as ‘fantastic’.

It makes complete sense for Wanderers to offer the defender an extension on his current contract, although he would have to accept that it wouldn’t be a long-term deal, given his age.

It could be that Saiss wants a fresh challenge, which Wolves fans would have to accept, but him staying put is the far more preferable outcome this summer.

In other news, a transfer expert has dropped a key Wolves claim. Read more here.
