Sydney van Hooijdonk sees Celtic transfer domino effect begin as Bologna move to replace forward lacking two traits

Bologna could be set to plan for life after Sydney van Hooijdonk as the forward's links to Celtic refuse to go away.

The son of former Hoops star Pierre has reportedly been the subject of 'enquiries' by Brendan Rodgers men as the Irishman looks to respond to an impending crisis in his striking department going into the New Year. Celtic will be without talisman Kyogo and back-up forward Oh who will both compete at the Asian Cup, leaving Rodgers short for crucial Scottish Premiership clashes in the early stages of 2024.

Van Hooijdonk seems out of favour with the top half Serie A side and manager Thiago Motta, and now Il Resto del Carlino report the Italian side are preparing for life after the 23-year-old should a move to Glasgow materialise. Bologna have reportedly earmarked Hugo Duro from Valencia and Ukrainian star Roman Yaremchuk as potential options to beef up their attacking team.

The report also states that van Hooijdonk isn't deemed a suitable back-up to top forward Joshua Zirkzee, and that in any case the Dutchman "doesn't find space and also doesn't have the characteristics of the central striker that Motta has shown he like"' since the former Italian international took over in the north of the country.

Celtic had previously held reported interest in the forward last summer, but after failed attempts on Bologna's part to add to their attacking line, the club were said to have taken a move off the table. Now it appears van Hooijdonk could edge closer to a January move to Glasgow. Previous reports suggested Motta wanted to 'make room' for new recruits in the winter window.
