'Switch it off' BBC Breakfast viewers vow to 'ditch' show after they're hit with schedule change

BBC Breakfast regulars have been left disgruntled after a scheduling change disrupted their morning routine.

Senior figures at the BBC made the call to cut short Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt's Saturday programme on July 27, opting instead to cover the eagerly anticipated Olympics 2024 opening in Paris, France.

Upset fans, unhappy with the abrupt change, have considered switching off the channel as a sign of disapproval. Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) saw an outpouring of complaints.

One disappointed viewer said: "Olympics, I switched it off and went to bed #bbcbreakfast."

Another viewer suggested: "bbc breakfast as everyone who is bothered by the Olympics will be staying on BBC1, maybe @bbcbreakfast you could actually focus on news rather than sport after 8am", reports the Mirror.

A third audience member voiced their frustration, tweeting: "@BBCNews you've cut #bbcbreakfast short! Can't the Olympics wait till 9? Or put it on News24?" A fourth disgruntled fan stated:"#bbcbreakfast I might as well do my big shop at 8:00am.. #OlympicGames."

Despite the unexpected alteration cutting their show to finish at 8am instead of the typical 9am, hosts Charlie and Naga remained upbeat, engaging in lively discussions about the Olympic festivities overtaking their airtime.

Charlie informed viewers: "Lots to look forward to today, the Olympics are officially underway," while Naga interjected to conclude the show with: "Hence we will be leaving you now but of course, BBC Breakfast will be back tomorrow for 6am. Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend."
