Swansea City man sends ominous warning to West Brom ahead of Championship clash

Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes has said that the Swans will look to show the ‘best version’ of themselves when they travel to the Hawthorns on Monday night.

Russell Martin’s side suffered a disappointing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United last weekend, a game that came just 11 days after a 3-0 defeat against Stoke City.

A 3-1 win over Bristol City was sandwiched in between the two defeats.

West Brom go into the game looking to pick up their first win since January 22, having lost both of their last two games.

While the Baggies were in midweek action vs Middlesbrough, Swansea have had a full week to prepare for the match.

Ahead of the game, Swans captain Grimes delivered an honest assessment of recent performances.

“We are under no illusion that we’re going to have games like that this year. We were poor, there was no doubt about it,” Grimes said about the result at Bramall Lane (via PlanetSwans ).

“We know what we want to do and how to do it but when we were lacking intensity it undermined us. When we are good we are absolutely incredible but when we were bad we were really bad.

“The way we play is so demanding on every single player being bang on it. If one or two aren’t there then the whole system fails. We need to deliver on the pitch and in the Stoke and Sheffield United games we were nowhere near it.”

The midfielder has also outlined the benefit of having an extra few days on the training pitch, something which Grimes believes the squad has used well.

“We have finally been able to train properly as a group for the first time since Preston,” he added.
