Swansea City four-fold transfer plan becomes clearer

Russell Martin is hoping to add enough quality to his side to be able to compete for a play-off place next season.

The South Wales club finished a disappointing 15th in the Championship this year in what became a transitional campaign for the team.

But a burst of good performances at the tail end of the season have given rise to optimism around the Swans that the side will be back competing at the top of the table soon.

According to Wales Online, the club is looking to sign MK Dons’ Harry Darling, who Martin worked with during his time with the League One side.

Liam Manning’s team lost their play-off semi-final to Wycombe Wanderers, which Swansea believe has boosted their chances of signing the defender.

The club is also keen on a reunion with Joe Allen. The Stoke City midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Hannes Wolf and Cyrus Christie are also on Martin’s wanted list, with Swansea hoping to convert their loan stints into permanent moves this summer.

A goalkeeper is also said to be on the agenda, with a potential striker another option should Joel Piroe leave the club this window.

Flynn Downes is also a wanted man, with the midfielder’s performances attracting interest from the likes of Leeds United.

Converting the loan moves of Wolf and Christie to permanent deals would be a positive step in the right direction.

Both have performed well for the club since arriving on temporary agreements.

But more will be needed, so it is good that the club is hoping to add players in defence and attack, with Darling a potentially very positive addition to the squad.
