Swansea City 3-0 Blackburn Rovers: Rampant Swans run riot in opening game of Alan Sheehan era

If Alan Sheehan does happen to have any ambition of taking charge of Swansea City on a permanent basis, this was about as perfect an opening gambit as he could have hoped for.

To put this stunning victory into context, the rotten run of form that had ultimately cost Luke Williams his job yielded just five goals in 10 largely wretched outings in all competitions.

Here, the Swans netted three in just one afternoon.

A fifth goal of the season from Zan Vipotnik, as well as strikes from Myles Peart-Harris and Liam Cullen capped what was arguably the most impressive attacking performances of the season, against a Blackburn Rovers side that are still in the play-off conversation.

A top six charge has looked an unlikely prospect for some time in SA1. Indeed Sheehan himself admitted the the focus at the moment is to merely ensure they preserve their Championship status for another season.

That goal is already looking a thoroughly achievable one, with this win opening up a 10-point gap between the Swans and the relegation zone.

Sheehan suggested there would be changes, and he duly delivered in his team selection, making four alterations from the defeat that had seen off his former boss at Stoke City, while also abandoning the three at the back that had looked so clunky and unbalanced in recent weeks.

Those changes more than paid off during what was a a first half performance brimming with attacking intent.
