Swansea City 2-1 Luton Town: Late Peart-Harris header hands Swans deserved comeback win

Swansea City ended their 2024 on a high after claiming a dramatic late win over struggling Luton Town at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Carlton Morris put the visitors in front after just five minutes following Lawrence Vigouroux's mistake, before Goncalo Franco restored parity with his second goal in as many games.

Franco was forced off with injury after the break, and Swansea, much to their frustration, laboured to unlock the Luton defence again, despite Joe Johnson being handed his marching orders midway through the second half.

However, they found a decisive breakthrough deep into stoppage time when Myles Peart-Harris headed home for his second goal of the season.

The result pushes Swansea up to ninth ahead of the trip to Portsmouth on New Year's Day, and gives them back-to-back wins for the third time this season.

After navigating their way through something of a tight spot recently, this result ensures the Swans end the year on a positive note, although this win over a Luton side that had previously lost each of their last eight away outings probably won't do much to settle the debate around what this team could actually achieve this season. Indeed, with Swansea now just four points adrift of the play-offs, it's a conversation that will continue to rumble on in the background for the next few weeks at least, with there perhaps still some belief that a top six charge is genuinely on.

For now, though, this was another reasonably good performance for boss Luke Williams to toast, although Luton’s opener will have likely made him wince.

After receiving the ball inside the area, goalkeeper Vigouroux’s pass was sent straight to Morris, who was left with a pretty simple finish inside the box.
