Swansea City 1-2 Bristol City: Russell Martin's men suffer extra-time defeat in FA Cup 3rd round replay

Sam Bell struck an extra-time winner as Bristol City knocked Swansea City out of the FA Cup.

The Swans trailed courtesy of Mark Sykes' effort shortly after the hour mark, but Ollie Cooper notched his sixth goal of the season seconds after coming off the bench to send the tie into an additional 30 minutes.

Luke Cundle, Liam Cullen and Ryan Manning all came close to winning it for Russell Martin's side as the visitors tired in extra-time. But Bell netted his first goal for the Robins in the second-half of extra-time to earn his side a home tie with West Brom in the fourth round.

Russell Martin made no fewer than seven changes to the team that started Saturday's 3-1 win over Sunderland, with only Ben Cabango, Joel Latibeaudiere, Matt Grimes and Joel Piroe keeping their places in the side.

Andy Fisher and Cameron Congreve were handed their first starts since August while Nathan Wood, Kyle Naughton, Luke Cundle, Olivier Ntcham and Matty Sorinola were also drafted in.

On the flip side, Nigel Pearson named the same squad that defeated Birmingham City 4-2 in the Championship at the weekend.

The bobbly playing surface did little to help the flow of the contest, but Swansea carved out the game's first opening on seven minutes as Congreve teed up Ntcham who rifled goalwards from the edge of the box, although Max O'Leary stooped low to make the save.
