Swansea City 1-1 Coventry City: Jerry Yates earns hosts well-earned point

Swansea City battled their way to a well-earned point at home to Coventry City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday.

Matty Godden put the visitors in front just before the break, before Jerry Yates headed in the second goal of his Swansea career just two minutes later, in a game where chances were largely at a premium.

The result means Swansea are yet to claim their first win of the new campaign, but this might well prove to be a point earned for the hosts against a side many expect to be in the play-off reckoning.

The mood was high in SA1 coming into this game following the news of captain Matt Grimes signing a new deal at the club. The skipper putting pen to paper on a two-year extension.

And there were certainly signs of improvement following the disappointing showing at West Bromwich Albion last week, although Michael Duff will surely be hoping there's more to come over the coming weeks, as he continues his search for a first league win since taking charge.

Charlie Patino was rewarded for his promising cameo last week with a start from the off here, slotting into an otherwise unchanged XI from the defeat at the Hawthorns.

Swansea struggled to get going at the hands of the Baggies last week, prompting Duff to demand more energy and intensity from his players for this encounter.

He would have probably been pleased with what he saw from the opening exchanges. Jay Fulton firing just wide after being teed up brilliantly by Joel Piroe on the edge of the box just after five minutes.

Coventry may have lost the attaking talents of Viktor Gyokers and Gustavo Hamer this summer, but it's clear they still have the ability to hurt any side in this division, and it wasn't long before they showed a threat themselves.
