Swansea City 0-3 Blackburn Rovers: Szmodics, Diaz and Travis strikes earn visitors emphatic win

Swansea City suffered a miserable defeat in their first home match of the 2022/23 Championship campaign as they were beaten 3-0 by Blackburn Rovers.

Russell Martin's men enjoyed plenty of possession but desperately lacked a cutting edge in the final third. And a mistake led to Sammie Szmodics - who joined Blackburn from Peterborough United earlier this week - firing the Lancashire outfit into the lead before half-time.

The Swans improved in the second-half, but after failing to take their chances following a flurry of goalmouth action, they fell two goals behind as Ben Brereton Diaz coolly chipped over Andy Fisher. And their misery was compounded six minutes from time as another mistake was punished by Lewis Travis who lashed into the roof of the net to ensure Swansea have just one point to their name from their opening two games of the new campaign.

Martin made two changes to the side that started against Rotherham United on the opening day, with Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Manning replacing Jamie Paterson and Matty Sorinola.

Swansea saw plenty of the ball early on while Blackburn also looked to retain possession when possible. The first opening fell to the visitors as Sam Gallagher fired straight at Fisher from an acute angle.

The home side's first chance came following brilliant play between Matt Grimes and Manning on the left flank, although Joel Latibeaudiere was unable to stretch to reach the latter's driven cross across the six-yard box.

Martin's men got a good grip on the contest and started to get into more promising positions as a result, with Kyle Naughton firing wide from 30 yards out. They came closer to breaking the deadlock on 25 minutes as Joel Piroe drilled inches wide after Michael Obafemi robbed Latibeaudiere
