Swansea City 0-1 Queens Park Rangers: Wasteful Swans slip to disappointing defeat

Swansea City missed the opportunity to further cement their Championship status for another season after slipping to a disappointing defeat at the hands of in-form Queens Park Rangers at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The hosts were made to pay for not taking their chances on a frustrating afternoon, which saw Joe Allen forced off with another worrying injury before half-time.

Matt Grimes came closest to finding the net for the hosts by curling a freekick onto the crossbar just after the restart, but a lack of attacking bite ultimately proved costly.

A well worked corner allowed Steve Cook to rattle home midway through the second half to hand the visitors all three points, although Aimar Govea nearly marked his home debut off the bench with a goal, after his ball from deep looped over the head of Asmir Begovic, only to come bouncing off the post.

The result leaves the hosts 15th in the table, and also halts a promising run of a form that had previously yielded just one defeat in six outings.

That run, as well as a sensational derby day victory over Cardiff City last time out at the Swansea.com Stadium had clearly helped take the edge off any lingering concerns of getting sucked into a relegation battle ahead of this contest. As such, this game perhaps wasn't the six-pointer many might have billed it as a few weeks ago.

Nevertheless, there was some sense of occasion here, with the club to paying tribute to the 1994 Autoglass Trophy winners before kick-off, while also donning a special one-off shirt to mark the 30th anniversary of that day at Wembley.

Swansea will clearly have to wait a little while before they get the chance to go down Wembley Way again. On paper, there's little to really play for now, but the next few weeks are
