Suspect, 19, named after police officer seriously injured in Sainsbury's car park
A man has been charged with assault after a police officer was seriously injured at a retail park.
Harvey Bell, 19, of Bennett Drive, Knutsford, has been charged with assault, dangerous driving and possession of a class B drug. He has been remanded to appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 28 January 2025).
A Greater Manchester Police officer was rushed to hospital after she was seriously injured during an incident at a retail park on Wilmslow Road, Cheadle, on Saturday, January 25. A 19-year-old man was arrested.
Superintendent Rick Arthern, of our Stockport District, said: “This was a truly terrifying incident for a frontline officer to go through, so I am delighted to secure these charges, which show that assaults on our officers are completely unacceptable.
“The officer is at home recovering and as the hardworking dedicated officer she is, she wants to return as soon as possible to protect her community.
“The vehicle used to run the officer over remains outstanding and we are asking for any information to assist in locating the vehicle.
“Anyone who saw a black Audi around the retail park on Saturday night at 11.55pm is urged to contact us on 0161 856 9790, quoting the log number 3558 of 25/01/25.”
Officers had attended the Cheadle Royal store's car park at 11.55pm on Saturday night. Paramedics were also at the scene.
