Survey shows where Wrexham AFC fans come from - with some surprising results
Wrexham AFC have enjoyed fantastic support over the past few years. Last season, despite still being in non-league, an average of 8,692 people attended home league matches at the Racecourse.
With the club having sold nearly 7,000 season tickets for the 2022/23 campaign and the Dragons fanbase seemingly growing all the time, North Wales Live conducted a survey via social media to find out where the majority of the club's fans come from. 426 people responded to the survey and some of the results were quite surprising, although being a relatively small sample size one could argue whether or not it is completely representative of the diaspora of support.
As expected, almost half of the support comes from the immediate Wrexham area, with 45% of respondents saying they're from Wrexham county. Also probably unsurprising is that just under a quarter are from the county of Flintshire, with Wrexham supporting hotbeds like Llay and Caergwrle located within the county.
What is a little bit more surprising is that the next biggest portion of support reside in the rest of Wales, ie anywhere other than the six counties of North Wales. 7% of support comes from South and Mid Wales, with Denbighshire also boasting 7%.
Next up is the support from England, with 6% of fans coming from over the border. The rest is made up of supporters from Gwynedd (4%), Anglesey (4%), Conwy (3%) and a further 2% from elsewhere.
There has definitely been a surge in interest in Wrexham AFC since the club's high-profile takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. However, the club has always enjoyed strong support from across North Wales. With the future now looking brighter than ever for the Dragons, many will be hoping to see the crowds continue to flock
