Survey: Should dogs be allowed on trams?

Metrolink are considering trialling allowing dogs on trams, and we want to hear your thoughts in our survey.

Only assistance dogs are allowed on trams at present, with other dogs having been banned from services since the first ones ran from Bury to Victoria in 1992

But Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) now say that they are working with mayor Andy Burnham in an effort to try and get a trial scheme in place this year.

Danny Vaughan, TfGM’s Head of Metrolink said: “A pilot scheme allowing non-assistance dogs on Metrolink was a manifesto commitment made by Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, and we are currently working with the mayor’s office to explore the possibility of running a pilot scheme on the tram network later this year.

“The details of the pilot, such as when it will take place and for how long, have yet to be confirmed, but further information will be released when these details have been finalised.”

Authorities had previously concluded that allowing dogs onto trams would present risks for the welfare of both passengers and dogs, with a previous attempt to change the ruling in 2015 not taking off.

But with that potentially changing with a trial proposed later this year, we want to know what your thoughts are on the issue.

To let us know, you can fill in the below survey or via this link.
