Surprising Ipswich Town departure confirmed

Ipswich Town have confirmed that Keiron Dyer has stepped down from his role as U23 manager.

The former player had been in the job since October 2020 and he had developed a reputation as an exciting young coach, with his team having finished second in the Professional Development League Two South last season, whilst they are top of the table right now.

However, the club announced this afternoon that Dyer has decided to leave, with CEO Mark Ashton revealing they weren’t expecting this decision as he also praised the 43-year-old for the work he has put in over the years.

“It has come as a surprise to us that Kieron wishes to stand down from his role as U23s manager. Kieron’s played his part in the development of some of our young players and we thank him for his efforts. I speak on behalf of everyone at the Club in wishing Kieron all the very best with his future.”

The Tractor Boys are yet to state who will replace Dyer and take charge of the development squad.

The verdict

You obviously have to respect Dyer’s decision to go and we don’t know why the ex-midfielder has decided to go.

But, what you can say is that it’s a big blow for Ipswich, evident by Ashton’s comments, as Dyer has proven himself to be very good at developing players and producing a style of play that the Tractor Boys want to see.

So, it will be interesting to see how Dyer’s coaching career develops and who Ipswich bring in to replace him in what is a key position at the club.
