“This is a tough one” – Ipswich Town fan pundit delivers verdict on James Norwood’s future

Ipswich Town look destined to spend another season in League One despite an upturn in form under Kieran McKenna since he replaced Paul Cook in the dugout.

The Tractor Boys at one stage looked unbeatable and impenetrable under the former Manchester United coach, going nine matches in a row without losing and even conceding a goal.

A surprise defeat to Cambridge United this past weekend though has left the Suffolk side with a mountain to climb when it comes to getting into the play-offs, but there’s no denying that improvements have been made.

One thing McKenna did following his arrival was lay out a clean slate to players, which allowed the ostracized James Norwood another chance at Portman Road.

The 31-year-old striker was playing in the reserves during Cook’s tenure but upon his return to first-team matters in December, Norwood scored four goals in successive games on the spin.

Despite getting regular chances though, Norwood hasn’t scored since January, and with his contract coming to a conclusion at the end of the season, the hierarchy at Ipswich have a big decision to make.

FLW’s Ipswich fan pundit Henry though believes it’s probably for the best that the two parties part ways with each other so that McKenna can bring in some younger, fresher players.

“This is a tough one – really like him as a person, as a character, and on the pitch he does a lot to battle, always looks like he’s trying, has a decent finish – but he unfortunately is maybe another one that doesn’t quite fit McKenna’s bill,” Henry
