SuperSport fail to hunt down Premiership leaders Sundowns as Arrows stun Matsatsantsa

SuperSport United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat was SuperSport's first in six league games and denied Gavin Hunt's side the opportunity to close the gap to league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

It was a fairly even start from both sides in the opening stages with the hosts just edging the state of play.  

A powerful run from Arrows winger Knox Matizwa on the left-hand side created an opening for Divine Lunga, who squared it to Ntsako Makhubela.

However he fired his shot straight at SuperSport goalkeeper Ricardo Goss to spare Matsatsantsa's blushes.  

Golden Arrows found the breakthrough in the 19th minute. After a clever corner routine from Arrows, a strike from Mutizwa struck the hands of SuperSport defender Siyabonga Nhlapo in the penalty area resulting in a penalty for the hosts. 

Up stepped Nduduzo Sibiya, who was given the responsibility to put his side ahead. The resulting penalty was saved.

However, United keeper Goss could only palm the ball back to Sibiya who slotted in the rebound to give Arrows the early lead and his fourth goal in the league this season.

Arrows had another opportunity from a free-kick as Sibiya Nduduzo effort was poorly dealt with by Goss as he palmed the ball straight to Nqobeko Dlamini. But Dlamini lacked composure and fired well over the bar from close range.

Arrows kept on knocking at Matsatsantsa door and they were duly rewarded for their efforts. A fantastic long rage pass from Lungelo Dube found Mutwiza, who slotted past Goss to double Arrows' lead heading into the break.
