Mokwena says ‘Downs have to improve after win over Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena believes that his side has room for improvement following their 1-0 win against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The runaway DStv Premiership log leaders are now on a 12-game winning streak with a 16-point gap between them and second-placed Richard's Bay FC.

Mokwena was not totally satisfied with his team's performance in the south of Johannesburg, saying his players could still improve.

"Believe me, there was a lot of things I was very happy about," Mokwena told reporters after the match.

"But I'm the type of person that says to the players, 'we can do more, we can improve, and we will focus on getting better.'

"I speak from a coaching perspective when I say we must improve.

"Even if we win 15 in a row, 16 in a row or 20 in a row, and even if we lose, we must still get better.

"There's no ceiling, and we have to think about that and know that."

The Brazilians face TS Galaxy on Tuesday in Mbombela, with Galaxy being one of only two teams that have beaten Sundowns this season.

Mokwena is wary of the Mbombela-based side, even though they've become the draw kings of the DStv Premiership, with 10 draws from 17 games.

"I watched them. They're well-coached, and you know why they beat us; you can see why they beat us," Mokwena said.

"We are not motivated by revenge – that comes from a very dark place. We are motivated by trying to win every single match, and that's what we'll try to do."

The match will take place at Mbombela Stadium, and kick-off is at 19:30.
