Supermarket spirals to most expensive for first time in months in our weekly price comparison
Prices are back on the rise at UK supermarkets in our weekly comparison of the same eight shopping essentials. And this week we have a new most expensive supermarket for the first time in months.
That title goes to Morrisons this week - overtaking Asda, after a price increase on its beef mince. Asda has also had a slight increase - albeit just a penny though - on its tin of baked beans.
Lidl is standing firm to remain the cheapest supermarket in our price comparison of the same eight essentials which we have been tracking since March 2022. The basket includes milk, bread, coffee, tea bags, butter, beans, chicken and mince.

Sainsbury's has cemented its place as second cheapest behind Lidl - after Aldi increased the price of its teabags this week which keeps it in third place. Lidl has now been the cheapest consistently since the end of January, and retains that position this week with a bill of £11.68.
With the exception of just one other week, Asda had been the most expensive since the end of January, overtaken just once in March by Tesco. But now Morrisons has claimed that place at the bottom of the list.
It's the first time it's been most expensive on our list since the start of the year, seven months ago. We have asked Morrisons for a comment.
Sainsbury's remains in second cheapest at £12.07, while Aldi is now up to £12.08 after a 10p increase on tea. Tesco comes in fourth at £12.37, followed by Asda up 1p at £12.81, and Morrisons on £12.99 - up 20p on last week thanks to its beef mince price increase.
Aldi insists it's not a fair comparison as the items we are comparing each week are not necessarily like-for-like.
