Supercomputer predicts where Manchester United will finish after Arsenal win

Four straight wins have propelled Manchester United up to sixth spot in the Premier League standings. But where will they finish in their first season under Erik ten Hag?

After missing out on Champions League qualification last season, United appointed Ten Hag as their new manager before signing Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Martin Dubravka and Antony as part of their much-needed rebuild. Several of those players have already hit the ground running.

It was a humbling start to life in the Old Trafford dugout for Ten Hag as Brighton and Brentford left United bottom after two games and without a single point. However, since then, pre-season optimism has been revived with wins over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester City and Arsenal.

Of course, there is still a long way to go this campaign and there will be plenty of twists and turns. But there's every chance that United will be able to mount a top-four charge with Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham also expected to be up there come May.

According to the FiveThirtyEight supercomputer, United are now on course to finish sixth on 61 points. It would see them miss out on the top four by seven points, although it would mark a big improvement on the 53 they accumulated under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick last term.

Data analysed by the same website indicates United have a 26 per cent chance of finishing in top-four - while they are, meanwhile, seen as two per cent shots to pip City and Liverpool to the Premier League title.
