Super sub Ethan fires Vale of Leven to dramatic Junior Cup victory
Ethan Furze stepped off the bench to fire Vale of Leven into the fourth round of the Junior Cup.
The young striker’s late double was enough to see off 10 man Roselea, who had twice led in the game.
And boss Brian Brown hailed the youngster for his attitude after finding himself on the sidelines.
Brian said: “Ethan’s attitude was spot on when he came on and he produced two really good finishes.
“You aren’t going to play every week, it can be hard going when you’re not used to it. But for him to come off the bench, show the attitude he did and score two great goals is excellent.
“I was really pleased with Ethan, as I have been since the start of the season.
“His finishing is excellent and he’s a magnet for the ball in the box. The build-up and physicality is something he needs to add in, but he’ll get there.
“All the boys up front are putting in a lot of hard work and I’m really chuffed for them.”
Roselea took an early lead when Euan Duff found the net from close range with just five minutes played.
A crazy two minute spell then saw the tie turned on its head, as Vale equalised through Ryan Hynes’ blistering finish - before the visitor’s Murray Soutar saw red for a foul on Greg Thackrey.
The Vale passed up a host of chances to take the lead, and were punished when Duff looped in his second of the game.
Greg Ross blasted Vale level with 25 minutes remaining, before summer signing Furze stole the show.
First he drilled in a superb low effort from the edge of the area, before sealing the points in stoppage time after wrongfooting a defender, driving in on goal and slotting home.
This Saturday the Vale welcome league new boys Kilsyth Athletic to Alexandria, with Brian adding: “They have had some really good results recently
