Super-sub Agg in dreamland

Irish goal-scoring hero Lily Agg said that she was in dreamland having sealed her side's progression to the 2023 World Cup play-off stage following their 1-0 win over Finland at Tallaght Stadium.

The London City Lionesses player only made her international debut in June, but she has already written her name into Irish footballing folklore with that brave 54th-minute header, with her overall contribution lifting a previously lethargic performance from Vera Pauw’s side following her introduction just before the interval.

Struggling to hear questions due to the noise after a game played in front of a record crowd for a women’s fixture at the Dublin venue, Agg described the magic moment.

"Surreal, I think I took a clattering," she said. "I got my head on it and yeah, unbelievable."

That was Agg’s second goal in just three Irish appearances having scored the winner against the Philippines on her debut, and she said that she couldn’t have asked for a better start to her international career.

"I’m dreaming, these girls are amazing and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.

"It was tough, it was really hard out there," added the Player of the Match. The girls worked so hard, everyone was giving their absolute all.

"They deserve this so much, the staff, the players, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it. What a night."
