Super Series win rounds off special on field year for Stirling Wolves skipper's family

Success has been running in the family for Reyner Kennedy as the Stirling Wolves stalwart celebrates his side’s Super Series success.

The Wolves skipper has been playing rugby in the area since first picking up a ball with Hillfoots RFC at age four and joined County at 13 before moving through the youth ranks.

Kennedy was part of the squad for the historic 29-19 win over Ayrshire Bulls on Saturday night, the first silverware for the club’s top men’s XV in almost two decades.

But it hasn’t been the only victory the Kennedy family have enjoyed on the field this season, with sister Megan also part of County’s successful Premiership squad who claimed the Premiership title back in February.

The front-rower told the Observer: “It’s very unique to have two siblings winning the Scottish championships in their respective divisions - that’s pretty unheard of and from a family perspective, it’s an achievement to be very proud of.”

Kennedy labelled Saturday’s win as the biggest moment in his rugby career and praised the Wolves’ three-headed coaching staff for helping get the Wolves over the line.

He said: “I’ve been at the club a very long time, starting in the youth section and working my way up to the first team and it’s the best achievement I’ve had since being here for sure.

“The last time the club won something in the men’s game was the championship in 1995 and it’s just a phenomenal thing; where we were even four or five weeks ago to now is just a great step forward.

“On a personal level, it’s the biggest moment I’ve had in club rugby, playing Scotland Under 20s was a huge honour but Saturday topped that and our coaches have done an incredible job.
