Super Rugby Pacific: All Black Ethan Blackadder sidelined for the rest of the year

Crusaders loose forward Ethan Blackadder will be sidelined for the rest of the year due to a shoulder injury sustained against the Reds in last week’s quarter-final.

Scans on Blackadder’s shoulder revealed that the loose forward will require surgery and will miss the All Blacks Test series against Ireland and the beginning stages of the Super Rugby Pacific season.

Blackadder has been in blockbuster form this season, showcasing his tremendous work rate on both sides of the ball as the Crusaders‘ season has picked up momentum toward the back end of the season.

Crusaders coach Scott Robertson empathised with Blackadder at the timing of the injury and said the medical team would be doing everything possible to aid the All Black’s recovery.

“We really feel for Ethan, who has been in incredible form and is such a hardworking and well-respected member of this team,” Robertson said.

“Our medical team will do what they do best and ensure he has everything he needs to be right for the 2023 season. In the meantime, he’ll find other ways to contribute to our group, as Ethan always does.”

Loose forward Tom Christie replaces Blackadder for the Crusaders’ crunch semi-final against the Chiefs this weekend in Super Rugby Pacific.
