Super League's relegation run-in analysed as Toulouse Olympique face critical five-game run
The fight for Super League survival is well and truly on with nine games remaining. Toulouse Olympique's astonishing comeback victory over Wakefield Trinity has left them just two points adrift of the West Yorkshire strugglers with nine games to go.
Wakefield have a long history of overcoming relegation and their current situation is nothing new to the club. But this is perhaps the biggest threat to their Super League status, certainly since surviving on the last day of the season back in 2006.
Toulouse, bolstered by mid-season, overseas additions, have won their last two games and are in good form. To make matters worse for Trinity, Toulouse have a better points difference and a significantly kinder run of games coming up than they do.

If Toulouse are to stay up, their next five games are critical. In that period they have four home games and don't play any of Super League's top four sides. Three back-to-back games against an injury-hit Leeds Rhinos, Salford Red Devils and Hull FC are up next, all of which many would say are winnable.
They subsequently face Hull KR who are on a lousy run of form and then they take on another bottom-half side in Warrington Wolves.
As for Wakefield, they also have a trip to Hull KR, an important game for them this Sunday. After that, they take on league leaders St Helens, travel the short distance to Castleford, a team they have lost their last 17 games against, before hosting Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons.
The fixtures look much kinder for Toulouse than Wakefield until the last push.
