Sundowns sizzle into Nedbank Cup semis with five-goal win past Summerfield Dynamos

Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup after making light work of third-tier outfit Summerfield Dynamos with a 5-0 victory at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

It was always going to be a tough ask for Dynamos - the first team from the ABC Motsepe League to reach the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals since 2011 - against South Africa's most dangerous team, and, unfortunately for the men from Durban, they got off to the worst possible start.

After just eight minutes in very fortunate circumstances, the Brazilians took the lead when a straightforward shot from Gaston Sirino somehow got the better of Dynamos keeper Bongani Masoga.

The Uruguayan would prove to be a thorn in Dynamos' side throughout the entire match.

It took just four minutes for Sundowns to add their second, an incisive long ball picking out Neo Maema, who cut it back for Lesedi Kapinga to slot it home.

Sundowns were proving too hot to handle for Dynamos, who somehow managed to not fall any further behind in the first half, despite big chances falling to Kapinga, Kermit Erasmus and Aubrey Modiba.

Only a top-drawer save from Masoga and a goal-line clearance from the Dynamos' defence prevented further damage.

More goals always looked on the cards, however, and Sundowns' third arrived in the 52nd minute, Sirino teeing up Erasmus for a simple finish to make it 3-0.

And shortly after the hour mark, Erasmus had his double, Sirino again playing the provider as he cut it back for the striker to score.

Sirino also had a hand in Sundowns' fifth, nine minutes from time, after rifling in a free-kick to the back post where Pavol Safranko was waiting to head it home, as the Brazilians ruthlessly dispatched
