Sunderland set to conclude transfer agreement with Tottenham

Sunderland could be about to bring in another attacking forward player this month, with Football Insider reporting that the Black Cats are about to seal a deal for Jack Clarke.

The winger has recently tried his luck in the Championship but could be about to drop down into the third tier to have a go at helping the Black Cats to seal a promotion.

He’s certainly experienced enough to do so, having featured for Leeds, QPR and Stoke over the last few years. Most recently was his spell with the Potters but he managed only six starts during his time there couldn’t find the back of the net.

That isn’t to say that Clarke isn’t a good attacking addition or that he isn’t an exciting prospect. Tottenham are still not letting him leave on a permanent basis because of his potential and he could certainly thrive given more regular action in League One.

With 43 games in the Championship under his belt, he certainly has the capabilities to do the business for Sunderland and for Lee Johnson – and with his signature secured on a loan deal until the summer, it could be just what the club needs to finally get back into the second tier themselves.

At 21-years-old now, he will be determined to prove that he can now kick on and cut it in competitive football – and a good spell with the Black Cats to end the season could certainly go a long way towards doing so and might even give him a chance on the bench for Spurs when he returns.

The Verdict

Jack Clarke has had an up and down couple of years after looking extremely bright for Leeds United as a young 17-year-old.

The forward made the move to Tottenham but has yet to feature for the side in the league and instead has had to make do with plenty of short-term moves away from White Hart Lane.
