Sunderland and Portsmouth among clubs eyeing swoop for 28-year-old free agent

Oxford United midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin has emerged as the subject of transfer interest from a number of clubs, Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson has reported.

Gorrin joined Oxford back in the summer of 2019 following his departure from Motherwell, and has since gone on to make 101 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring once.

However, the 28-year-old is set to leave the club this summer when his contract at the Kassam Stadium comes to an end.

Now it seems as though that news, has attracted plenty of interest from elsewhere in the Football League.

According to this latest update from Anderson, Wigan Athletic, who won promotion back to the Championship as League One champions this season, are interested in signing the midfielder, although they are now alone.

Sunderland, who could also secure a place in the second-tier with victory in next saturday’s League One play-off final, are also said to be keen on Gorrin.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth, Burton and Lincoln, who are set to compete with Oxford in League One next season, have also been credited with an interest.

Alex Rodriguez is leaving Oxford on a free transfer and is wanted by Sunderland, Wigan, Burton, Lincoln and Portsmouth.

Gorrin has struggled for opportunities this season due to injury, but has shown throughout his time with Oxford that he is a reliable operator at League One level.

However, there may be more of a risk in this for Wigan, and potentially Sunderland, given he has never been tested in the Championship before.
