'Summer may be over, but my favourite time of year in Manchester is just getting started'

The days are getting shorter, the first leaves are starting to change colour, and the kids are going back to school (congratulations parents, you've almost made it).

It’s hard to believe it’s already September. True, July and August didn't really feel much like summer, but 2023 seems to be hurtling along at lightning pace.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Manchester in the summer. Last week's stunning Manchester Pride festival was the perfect send-off for the season, a much-needed chance for the LGBTQ+ community to let off some steam, and the source of a few whopping hangovers.

But for me, it’s the last few months of the year that really show our brilliant city off at its best.

It was during the autumn months that I made the decision to move to Manchester several years ago. There's so much going on at this time of year, and 2023 will be no different.

Over the next four months, millions will descend on Manchester to share good times with friends and family. The city's arenas and venues will be packed as ever for gigs and events - not least the return of comedy legend Peter Kay, as he embarks on a mammoth run at the AO Arena.

Thousands of young people will descend on Mayfield for the Warehouse Project, a true clubbing powerhouse, bringing a vibrant buzz to the city each weekend. If sport is your thing, the Super League Grand Final returns to Old Trafford in October, while the Davis Cup tennis takes place in Manchester this month.

It's still early enough in the men's football season for all Greater Manchester's clubs to be optimistic too, while our incredible Lionesses will be back in Women's Super League action. Communities
