'Stuff like this seems to keep happening': Neighbours' shock as police comb streets for clues following shooting

"Why on Earth are people running around with guns? I'm glad no one was hurt, but bad stuff like this seems to keep happening."

Andy Crompton, like many in his neighbourhood, woke to find police trawling the streets for evidence following an early hours shooting. Forensic specialists spent Friday (January 5) carrying out fingertip searches after a gunman opened fire in Salford district.

It is being treated as an isolated incident by Greater Manchester Police, who have urged anyone with information to come forward. The gunman remains at large.
