Struggling Celtic stars told to 'grow a set' as Parkhead strike hero claims even Pep Guardiola couldn't solve problems

Frank McAvennie claims even Pep Guardiola wold struggle to solve Celtic’s problems as he urged the under-fire players to “grow a set”.

The former Hoops strike hero was speaking after the champions surrendered top spot in the Scottish Premiership to rivals Rangers following a 1-1 draw at home to Kilmarnock. It comes after Brendan Rodgers’ side were seven points clear of the Light Blues in October. But Philippe Clement’s arrival at Ibrox as axed Michael Beale’s successor has helped shift the title momentum to Govan with the Belgian winning all but two of his league games, suffering just one defeat which came at the hands of Celtic in his Old Firm derby debut with the two due to meet again at Ibrox on April 7 in what could go some way to deciding the outcome of the title race.

With Celtic boss Rodgers coming under mounting pressure and his Parkhead second coming not going to play - having also been succeeded as Viaplay Cup champions by Rangers - McAvennie has voiced his concerns about the players at Rodgers' disposal.

He told told PLZ Soccer: “Who are you going to bring in? Pep’s supposed to be the best manager in the world and I don’t know how he could make that team (better). It’s all about confidence.

“Some of the players… it’s alright when you’re winning but grow a set. Stand up and be counted. If you’re looking at Kilmarnock and saying ‘individually they were better than you’ then that’s not right for Celtic.”
