“Strikes me as one of the better immediate destinations” – Crystal Palace target move for Nottingham Forest star: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict‘ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Premier League side Crystal Palace are the latest side to join the race for Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, according to a report from The Sun.

The 20-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Reds this term following a successful loan spell in League One with Lincoln City, recording nine goals and five assists in 31 league appearances this term.

Establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet for the East Midlands outfit, this has only intensified interest in his signature with Brentford’s interest in the Welshman dating back to the summer following his temporary stay at the LNER Stadium.

Now back at the City Ground, the winger’s speed and technical ability has been a real asset on the right-hand side and has formed a deadly partnership with Djed Spence, with the duo proving to be key in Forest’s rise from the bottom of the table to the promotion mix.

Brentford even went as far as launching multiple bids for the 20-year-old last month in a deal that would have broken the Bees’ transfer record if the second-tier side had accepted their final offer.

Those attempts to recruit him were rebuffed though, potentially giving Palace the chance to sign him in the summer, having already signed one player from the Championship under Patrick Vieira in Michael Olise.

For the Eagles though, would this be a good signing for them with the attacking firepower they already have? Is he needed? We asked three of our Football League World writers for their thoughts.
