State of play on future of Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson amid transfer interest

Regardless of which division Nottingham Forest find themselves in next season, it will be a big summer for head coach Steve Cooper.

There will be plenty of changes at the City Ground as the Welshman looks to put his stamp on the squad, with incomings and outgoings expected.

And there is likely to be interest in some of the Reds’ key men after a campaign of sparkling performances in the Garibaldi.

By that stage, Brennan Johnson will have 12 months left to run on his current contract. Having been a wanted man before, he continues to have clubs casting admiring glances in his direction.

Here’s a look at the state of play on the 20-year-old’s future as attention will soon turn to the transfer window.

Johnson’s deal is due to expire in the summer of 2023. Talks have been held over a new one, but, as yet, fresh terms haven’t been agreed.

It would certainly put Forest in a stronger position with regards to their prized asset, if they can get him tied down to a new long-term contract.

The Nigel Doughty Academy graduate is said to be in no rush to put pen to paper, however.

His father, and former Reds striker, David, recently spoke of a meeting with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

“He was fantastic. He came across really well,” he said. "He told me how he sees the club and its future. We said, ‘great, we'll carry on talks’.

“There's 15 games to go so let's sit down and try to get something sorted by the end of the season, but it's so busy it will probably be by email or something.

"That's where we're at. Everyone thinks it's like deadline day and you have an hour to agree the contract.
