Street evacuated with woman and children in hospital after fire tears through home in suspected arson attack

A woman and two children were rushed to hospital and a street was evacuated after a fire tore through the living room of a house in a suspected arson attack in Moston.

Fire crews, police and paramedics descended on Dean Brook Close at around 9.45pm on Wednesday (July 17) to reports of a house fire. The blaze then spread to a vehicle outside.

Police believe the blaze was started deliberately. A woman and two children were treated for smoke inhalation and two dogs were also rescued from the burning property.

Emergency crews taped off the area, off St Mary's Road for a number of hours amid investigations into the cause of the blaze. It's understood the three people had escaped the property before the fire service arrived.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Emergency services are responding to a fire at a property on Dean Brook Close in Moston. All occupants of the house were safely evacuated. A woman and two children have been treated for smoke inhalation and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

"Two dogs were also removed from the house and neighbours in nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution. Police believe this to be an arson incident. No arrests have been made and our investigation is ongoing."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 9.45pm on Wednesday 17 July, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a home on Dean Brook Close, Manchester.
