Stormers coach rues defensive lapses in Glasgow defeat: 'Just a very bad day at the office'

Stormers coach John Dobson rued a "very bad day at the office" after his team got unstuck against Glasgow Warriors in Scotland on Sunday.

Glasgow's Argentine winger Sebastian Cancelliere scored a late try as the hosts won 24-17 to inflict only the second defeat on the Stormers in this season's URC.

The Stormers were uncharacteristically slack on defence as Glasgow ran in four tries to claim a bonus-point win.

Former Stormers centre Huw Jones had a field day against his former team. Jones and centre partner, Sione Tuipulotu, proved a menace in midfield for the Stormers, while SA-born winger Kyle Steyn and Cancelliere also stood out. 

According to post-game statistics, the Stormers missed a whopping 39 tackles and it cost the visitors badly.

"We were poor in areas we didn't want to be in. We probably over-committed to the defensive breakdowns. I thought we gave them a couple too many yards on defence when they carried off 10 and 9," Dobson told reporters afterwards.

"It was just a very bad day at the office against a team that's really on a roll."

Dobson said Glasgow deserved credit for opening up the Stormers defence.

"They went deep to get around us. They executed really well against our line speed.

"They carried well and we were very poor at making double tackles and slowing the ball down. Their ball was too fast.

"We have to give them credit, they knew we were going to come with our line speed and they got 'round us."

The Stormers mentor was reluctant to blame their long travel journey - it took almost 40 hours to get to Glasgow - for the lacklustre performance.
