Storm Bert football fixtures LIVE: UK snow latest with matches at risk of postponements

Multi-hazard storm system Storm Bert will hit the United Kingdom this weekend as football matches in Manchester and beyond face the threat of strong winds, heavy rain as well as snow and blizzards.

Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at 5:30pm on Saturday, while games across the North West are set to take place amid an amber warning for snow and ice from the Met Office with numerous yellow warnings issued for rain and wind.

It is rare for Premier League matches to be postponed due to the advanced technology and state-of-the-art frost covers to prevent pitches from freezing when the temperatures drop and waterlogged pitches.

There is a full compliment of fixtures scheduled in each tier of England's football pyramid with the top-flight, second division and some League One fixtures returning following the international break.

Already this week, across the north of the country, schools were closed earlier this week as freezing temperatures sparked hazardous conditions on the roads.

Yellow warnings in place from 5am to 7pm on Saturday have been issued with winds of up to 60 miles per hour expected across Scotland and parts of northern England. While, southern England is expected to feel the gale forces later on Saturday with gusts of up to 70mph around the south coast until 9pm on Sunday.

The environment agency has warned heavy rain could lead to localised flooding with a yellow warning in place across the south-west and central England and Wales for rainfall up to 70mm. In parts of Dartmoor and south Wales, it has been suggested that the average rainfall for the whole of November could fall in just a day.
