Stop-and-search powers stepped up after man stabbed and boy arrested

Stop-and-search powers have been stepped up in an area of Salford after a man was left with 'life-changing' injuries following a stabbing.

Police were first scrambled to the scene of the incident on Kenyon Way in the Little Hulton area at around 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday). Officers were called to reports of a 'disturbance between a group of young men'.

They found a man with knife wounds at the scene. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, which are believed to be life-changing.

A boy, aged 17, was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He remains in police custody to be quizzed by detectives.

Witnesses on the scene told the Manchester Evening News they saw a young man 'being chased by three masked figures before being attacked'. Police said the incident was believed to have been 'isolated'.

In an update issued in the early hours of this morning, officers in Salford said stop-and-search powers would be stepped up in an area covering parts of Little Hulton, Shakerley, Parr Fold and Greenheys. The order - which is in place until 8.30am today - gives police the power to search any people or vehicles for weapons.

Salford Police said in a tweet this morning: "#NEWS | Police have authorised stop & search powers following a stabbing in Little Hulton, Worsley. These temporary powers will allow police to stop & search people & vehicles to prevent serious violence & find weapons. This will be in place until 8:30am today (24/3/23)."

Following the incident last night, a large police cordon was put in place on Kenyon Way. A police tent was erected and specialist forensic crime scene investigation (CSI) were seen analysing the road.
