Stoffel Vandoorne relishing pressure ahead of Formula E finale

Stoffel Vandoorne says he is enjoying the expectancy and pressure to deliver this weekend as he eyes the Formula E title.

The Belgian heads into the final weekend in South Korea 36 points ahead of his nearest rival in the championship and he will be well aware that the crown is very much his to lose over the two races in Seoul on Saturday and Sunday.

He is enjoying the expectation and pressure that is around him at the moment, though, and has explained that he feels as though this weekend is just like any other race weekend, despite obviously what is riding on the result.

Speaking to the press, including GMS, virtually earlier this week, Vandoorne explained that he’d not spoken much with team-mate Nyck de Vrires, who won the title last year, in terms of asking for advice as he feels as though he has enough experience already to handle it this weekend, before saying how much he was enjoying the pressure:

“I’ve not really spoke to Nyck much, we’re both experienced. I’ve been in situations like this before in previous championships and at the end of the day I think it’s kind of normal to have this kind of pressure but it’s something I enjoy as well.

“I kind of like to be in this position when obviously everyone is expecting me to do well but every time you get into a racing car you’re expected to do well and to perform and I don’t really think it’s any different this week.”

We’ll soon see how well Stoffel does indeed deal with the pressure, with the Seoul E-Prix almost upon us.

Season 8 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship reaches its conclusion in Seoul, South Korea with a double-header on August 13 and 14, with both races live on terrestrial television on Channel 4 from 07:30 BST.
