Stoffel Vandoorne reveals Le Mans aim after Formula E title win

Recently-crowned Formula E title winner Stoffel Vandoorne says that he would like to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours once again in the future.

The Belgian last competed in the great endurance race in 2021, with him not part of the field earlier this year for the latest edition.

Indeed, he felt as though being able to focus fully on Formula E this year might well have helped him win this season’s championship, something he did last weekend at the South Korea E-Prix in Seoul, but that does not mean that he wouldn’t consider another run at winning Le Mans if the opportunity presented itself.

Speaking earlier this week on the back of his championship victory last Sunday, the Belgian addressed the idea of heading back to the Circuit de la Sarthe:

“There’s certainly room for Le Mans, it would be nice to go back there and fight for a win. But that depends on a lot of different scenarios.

“This year I’ve only driven Formula E and in the end that focus might have helped me, I wasn’t distracted and I always knew what the focus was. But as a racing driver, you always want to be in the car as much as possible. I have to question what gives me the best performance. I have to think about it, but at some point I will fight for a win at Le Mans.”

Vandoorne is an excellent driver and proved that this year with a supreme level of consistency that left his title rivals ultimately falling short in the battle for the crown.

Consistency and speed is certainly key when it comes to winning Le Mans, too, and it’s clear Vandoorne has eyes on competing in the race again in the future.

Plenty of other FE drivers have combined competing in the series with Le Mans, too, so there’s no reason why we won’t see Stoffel do it again.
