Stockport set to host massive weekend of free events including live music, sculpture trail, and giant animal puppet parade

A carnival of animals parade, live music and comedy, plus a sculpture trail will take over Stockport in a few weeks time as the town hosts a free weekend of events.

The Stockport Town of Culture Weekender will span more than 50 events across 25 locations, and takes place on the weekend of 23-24 March. It marks the end of the town's Greater Manchester Town of Culture status which was awarded to it last year.

Stockport's new rooftop park, which will be unveiled to the public in the coming days will play host to many of the activities. A carnival of the animals parade featuring giant animal puppets, a grandpa comedy duo, live music with Pandemonium Steel Band, Tai Chi and Yoga taster classes and the sculpture trail, will all take place at at the 'Pocket Park' - the town's first green space to be built on the top of a transport interchange.

To celebrate the town's cultural status and providing a window into its past, a series of walks, tours and activities will also take place across the weekend, including a Hatting Walk and Stockport Music Walk. Meanwhile, The War Memorial Gallery will also be hosting the Stockport Rising Exhibition, showcasing the works of five local celebrated artists.
