Stirling Wolves set for Murrayfield date as they go for maiden Super Series glory

Stirling Wolves coach Eddie Pollock insists his side will have their eyes firmly on the task as they prepare for their first Super Series final on Saturday.

The Wolves - who finished fourth in the league phase - pulled off the shock of the competition by beating top side Heriot’s 27-21 in Lasswade on Friday night to set up the clash against Ayrshire Bulls at Murrayfield Hive.

A pair of tries from Connor Gordon were backed up by scores from Ed Hasdell and the Super Series’ top try scorer Ross McKnight to seal the statement win and fill the Bridgehaugh side full of confidence ahead of the big occasion.

Head coach Pollock piled praise on his side for their shock troop display and said the success was down to deviating from their traditional style of play to catch out their opposition.

“It was a massive performance on Friday and we’ve been getting a bit of consistency which has been a challenge for us; we got the tactics right and the guys were first-class in their execution of the game plan”, Pollock said.

“Heriot’s kick a lot and their plan is to kick out into your half, play for field position and pressurise your mistakes, but we just returned the ball to them and placed them under pressure, we ended up scoring three times in that opening period.

“We are a side who do a lot of counter-attacking generally so it was the complete opposite, but the players bought into it very well.

Pollock and his coaching staff have been hard at work with their charges ahead of the weekend final - but the coach stressed the need for his players to stay calm and follow their game plan to see off the Bulls, who finished second in the table.
