Stirling County's women face crunch weekend as they go for three straight titles
Stirling County’s women are gunning for a three-peat as they head to the capital for Saturday’s Premiership final.
The County side are the defending champions for the last two seasons, securing their most recent title in December last year with a 26-19 win at Watsonians.
Once again, they will be on the road for the showpiece final clash, making another trip through to Edinburgh for a match with Corstorphine Cougars, who went unbeaten during the league phase of the season with 14 wins in a row.
County finished second to secure their place in the play-off final, but they will be hoping the inspiration of the final will allow them to overcome a record which has seen two of their three defeats this season come against Corstorphine.
The Bridgehaugh side will take a big following through to Union Park — and boss Mark Ainsworth (inset) is confident his side will handle the pressure.
Ainsworth said: “We’ve trained well and have everyone fully fit — which is a real boost.
“Our experience in the final can work different ways; we know what to expect and the levels required but we have to guard against any complacency.
“We will do that because we go into every game with 100 per cent whether it is a final or a game against the bottom side in the league, we knew what we had to do to get into the final at the end of the season and we managed to do that.
“There were some big scores but the pleasing thing was that we kept our processes and by doing that and playing the way we want, that will help us in finals in the pressure moments.”
The Cougars will start as favourites given their record through the season, winning 34-22 at Bridgehaugh in the sides’ first meeting on September 14 and then edged a narrow contest 20-19 on November 2.
