Stirling Albion striker hails Binos' fans backing after notching crucial Dumbarton double

Two-goal hero Robert Thomson praised the Binos fans for sticking with the team in the tough moments – and admits the squad wants to reward their patience by bringing home the title.

The big striker netted a crucial brace in the weekend come-from-behind draw with title rivals Dumbarton at Forthbank, a result that helped maintain their hard-earned two point gap at the League Two summit.

The Sons failed in their opportunity to move themselves back to the top on Wednesday night, falling 1-0 at home to play-off contenders Forfar Athletic, with the Binos now also enjoying a game in hand, which will be played against Elgin City in Stirling next Tuesday.

Before that, the first of two games against the Black and Whites in the space of four days await, with Stirling making the long trip up to Moray tomorrow with the hope of keeping the pressure on.

Thomson’s two headers from Jack Leitch corners dragged the Binos back into the game twice after falling behind to goals from firstly Ross Maclean in the first half and then Finlay Gray after the interval.

The forward believed it was his side who finished strongly in the game – but acknowledged he was unsure what to make of the final result after being behind twice.

“When you look back at the game, we’ve had to come from behind twice and then we were the team pushing at the end and trying to win the match,” Thomson said.

“It’s a wee bit unfortunate to lose the two points, it’s one of those ones where we’ve went behind twice so from that perspective, it’s probably a point gained but I think we played well and were the team in the ascendancy, so it’s a hard one to judge.
